How Diarrhea Affects the Body
Kongsi
Diarrhea in Malaysia is more common during the rainy season. During this time, bacteria and mold thrive, making food more likely to spoil and leading to diarrhea and food poisoning. Contaminated water may also be a source of transmission.
Seasonal variation can also affect the type of diarrhea that occurs. Bacterial diarrhea is more common during warm seasons, while viral diarrhea is more common during drier, cooler months.
As precaution, do wash your hands regularly, store and prepare food safely, don’t leave leftover food unrefrigerated and avoid drinking tap water.
Also, do equip yourself with probiotics. Probiotics can be effective in managing diarrhea caused by infections, such as viral gastroenteritis ("stomach flu"). They work by enhancing the gut's immune response and outcompeting harmful pathogens, helping to shorten the duration of diarrhea.
